Edwards Property Finishes did not start as a renovation company. It started with one tradesman, one van and a reputation built one Doncaster street at a time. More than forty years later, the same name now manages complete renovations across metropolitan Melbourne — but the way we work has not really changed.
It began in Melbourne's eastern suburbs
In the early 1980s the work came from Doncaster, Doncaster East, Templestowe and Bulleen — ceiling repairs, wall patches, interior repaints and the occasional full house. There was no advertising. Jobs came from the neighbour who saw the van parked out the front for a week and liked how the place was left at the end of each day.
That word-of-mouth foundation is still the backbone of the business. Many of the homes we work on today belong to the children of clients we looked after in the 1990s, and plenty of our Manningham and Boroondara clients have used us three or four times across different properties.
A small family business, run like one
Being family run has always shaped the decisions we make. We have never chased volume for the sake of it, because a job you rush is a job you get called back to. We would rather run fewer projects properly than a dozen badly.
It also means you deal with people, not a call centre. Sarah manages enquiries, quoting and scheduling personally, so the person you speak to first is the person who knows where your project sits.
Why we became a full end-to-end renovation service
For years clients asked the same question: can you organise the rest of it too? They had found a plasterer and a painter they trusted, and they did not want to go hunting for a plumber, an electrician or a tiler and then referee the timing between them.
So we built the team out. Today Edwards Property Finishes coordinates the trades a renovation actually needs — plastering, painting, plumbing, electrical, carpentry, property repairs and interior finishes such as curtains, blinds and upholstery — under one point of contact and one schedule.

From the eastern suburbs to all of Melbourne
The eastern suburbs are still home, but the work has spread well beyond them. We now service Melbourne Metro and Melbourne's inner and outer surrounding suburbs, from Williamstown and Footscray in the west, through the inner north and city, out to the Yarra Ranges and down to Frankston and Kingston.
Growing that footprint has been deliberate and steady. We add crews when we can keep the same standard, not before.
What has not changed in forty years
Preparation still decides quality. Surfaces are still protected and cleaned down daily. Quotes are still written so you can read them. And we still walk the finished job with the client before we call it done.
That is the whole business model, really: precision in every finish, and a company you can call again in ten years.
